Detours around the East Branch Road bridge replacement project will end by Monday, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.
Branch Road and Country Club Road will likely be open to traffic again on Sunday night.
Work began in June for the replacement of the bridge spanning Slab Cabin Run, near the entrance to Centre Hills Country Club. Replacing the bridge will remove it from Centre County’s structurally deficient list and will eliminate the weight postings of 19 tons for single vehicles and 31 tons for combination vehicles.
An average of about 10,000 vehicles use the bridge each day.
Since mid-July, East Branch Road has been closed to traffic just north of Country Club Road and earlier in August another detour was added closing Country Club Road. After detours are lifted, work will continue on the project with intermittent lane closures and alternating traffic patterns controlled by flaggers. Remaining work includes paving, line painting, driveway adjustments and grading
