Centre County Adds 1 New COVID-19 Case; Statewide Total Tops 69,000

Centre County added one new case of COVID-19 on Wednesday, bringing its total to 149 since the first was reported on March 20.

In the past two weeks, the county has added 23 new cases of the virus.

Statewide, Pennsylvania has now had 69,417 COVID-19 cases, with 780 new positives reported on Wednesday by the Pennsylvania Department of Health. It was the 17th consecutive day the state has reported fewer than 1,000 new cases.

The health department estimates that 62 percent of patients with the virus — or 43,039 — have recovered.

Of Pennsylvania’s total cases, 67,515 are confirmed and 1,902 are probable.

The state also added 113 new COVID-19 deaths to its count on Wednesday, bringing the total to 5,265. Centre County has had six COVID-19 deaths, according to the department, with the most recent reported on Saturday.

16823 (Bellefonte): 39

16801 (State College): 33

16803 (State College): 24

16827 (Boalsburg): 9 

16870 (Port Matilda): 9

16828 (Centre Hall), 16866 (Philipsburg), 16844 (Julian), 16841 (Howard), 16852 (Madisonburg) each have 1-4 cases. Specific numbers are not provided for zip codes with fewer than five cases. 

Among Centre County’s bordering counties, Huntingdon now has 228 cases, Mifflin has 58, Union has 56, Clinton has 54, Blair has 48 and Clearfield has 37.

A total of 339,835 patients in Pennsylvania have tested negative for COVID-19, including 1,966 people in Centre County. Across the state, 1,493 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, with 334 requiring a ventilator, as of noon on Wednesday.

According to Johns Hopkins University, the United States has had 1,684,173 confirmed cases of COVID-19, with 99,123 deaths and 384,902 recoveries.
