Centre County Adds 116 New COVID-19 Cases

Centre County reported 116 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday to bring its total to 2,667 since the first was reported on March 20, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

The county also had 435 new negative test results. A total of 26,374 patients in Centre County have tested negative for the virus.

According to DOH data, Centre County has six COVID-19 hospitalizations, an increase of one since Monday.

All new cases reported on Tuesday were confirmed.

In the past two weeks, Centre County has added 1,218 new cases, the vast majority in the State College and University Park zip codes 

Statewide, the health department reported 988 new positives, increasing Pennsylvania’s total to 157,814.

There were 11,270 new negative test results. A total of 1,866,761 patients in Pennsylvania have tested negative for the virus.

An estimated 81% of COVID-19 patients in the state have recovered, according to a DOH calculation. The recovery estimate decreased by 1%.

Across Pennsylvania, 507 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, with 63 requiring use of a ventilator.

The health department reported 16 new COVID-19 deaths, bringing the state’s total at 8,123. DOH has reported 11 total COVID-19 deaths for Centre County, the most recent on Aug. 14. The coroner’s office has confirmed only seven, ranging in age from 74 to 96.

Most COVID-19 hospitalizations and deaths have been among patients 65 and older, according to DOH.

Among Pennsylvania’s total cases, 152,868 are confirmed and 4,946 are probable. In Centre County, 2,601 are confirmed and 66 are probable.
