Centre County government officials on Friday reported the first COVID-19 case among county employees.
Anyone who may have been in contact with the individual has been notified, according to a news release, which did not identify in which area of county government the employee worked.
“Our best wishes for a speedy recovery are extended to this employee,” Board of Commissioners Chairman Michael Pipe said. “Without question, the health and safety of our workforce is a top priority and the County will continue its efforts to provide necessary protection for our employees and the visiting public.”
Centre County buildings remain closed to the public with limited access, but all offices are operational and continue to provide services.
‘Since early March, the County has taken aggressive, proactive steps to reduce the risk of infection among its employees by implementing a multi-faceted operational plan,’ the release said.
In addition to limiting building access, that has included disinfecting procedures, canceling in-person group meetings, remote telework arrangements, and distancing and masking requirements, among other mitigation measures.
The county has reported six COVID-19 cases among inmates at the County Correctional Facility in Benner Township, but had no employee cases there as of Friday morning.
According to the Pennsylvania Department of Health, Centre County has had a total of 138 cases of COVID-19 since the first was reported on March 20, including two new positives reported on Friday.
