Centre County Reports 11 New COVID-19 Cases

Centre County matched its highest single-day total for new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday.

The county reported 11 new cases, tying the high set on April 7 and bringing its total to 195 since the first was confirmed in March.

In the past two weeks, the county has added 34 new cases.

Among Centre County’s total cases, 181 are confirmed and 14 are probable. For the new cases on Tuesday, seven are confirmed and four are probable

16865 (Pennsylvania Furnace), 16828 (Centre Hall), 16829 (Clarence), 16866 (Philipsburg), 16844 (Julian), 16875 (Spring Mills), 16852 (Madisonburg), 16872 (Rebersburg), 16845 (Karthaus) each have 1-4 confirmed cases. Specific numbers are not provided for zip codes with fewer than five cases. 

Nursing home cases in Centre County remained unchanged, with 23 among residents and 14 among staff at two facilities.

Statewide, the Pennsylvania Department of Health reported 510 new cases on Tuesday, increasing the commonwealth’s total to 82,696.

Pennsylvania has had 6,464 total deaths attributed to the virus, including 38 new deaths reported by the health department on Tuesday. Centre County has had six COVID-19 deaths, the most recent on May 27.

An estimated 78 percent of patients with the virus — or about 64,503 — have recovered, according to DOH.

Among Centre County’s bordering counties, Huntingdon now has 240 total cases, Union has 89, Clinton has 73, Clearfield has 70 and Mifflin and Blair have 61.

A total of 596,407 patients in Pennsylvania have tested negative for COVID-19, including 3,728 people in Centre County. Across the state,  743 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, with 146 requiring use of a ventilator as of noon on Tuesday.
