The popular butterfly release event was held on Saturday at Centre Crest in Bellefonte to kick off summer.
Family and community members attended the event and every resident released a butterfly into the facility’s Kline Way Garden. Local musician and longtime volunteer John Thompson also performed and Fran Nuhfer, a Penn State master gardener, presented an educational program about the lifecycle of the butterfly.
Butterflies were purchased and named in honor of or in memory of a loved one for a $10. All donations go toward keeping of the garden maintained for the residents to enjoy.
The ceremony and fundraiser has been part of summer celebrations and organized by the Centre Crest Auxiliary since 2008. It is one of the most well-attended and anticipated events throughout the year.
