The question of what to do with the Centre Crest building will be up for a public hearing at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12, at Lambert Hall, on the corner of Forge Road and Blanchard Street in Bellefonte. Scheduled to be discussed is the zoning of the property, which will determine what the facility can be used for once the nursing home moves to its new location.
An issue of concern is the change in zoning from R4, which is high-density multifamily residential, to R2, which is medium-density town-residential. The zoning includes nine parcels of about 10.5 acres, of which 6.7 is county-owned. Four private multifamily homes also sit on the acreage.
At the heart of the zoning change is the plan to move Centre Crest Nursing Home from its current 96,000-square-foot building at 502 E. Howard St. to a new facility on Benner Pike. Representative from Centre Crest have said the move to the new facility in scheduled for spring 2020.
The meeting for the public hearing had been scheduled for Nov. 8, but was postponed. This was after the meeting was first scheduled for Aug. 20.
