Residents, particularly citizens, are invited to a Citizen’s Police Academy run by local law enforcement.
Centre County TRIAD, a partnership between the sheriff, senior citizens, and law enforcement agencies, is hosting the 17th Annual Citizen’s Police Academy from Sept. 29 to Oct. 3.
While the course is geared toward seniors, all ages are welcome to attend.
“The academy is an opportunity for seniors to meet other seniors, to meet law enforcement and other professionals from multiple different local agencies,” says State College Community Relations Officer Kelly Aston. “The academy provides seniors with the ability to ‘arm’ themselves with the education to protect themselves from becoming victims of crimes, enables them to understand and better navigate the criminal justice system, and helps them to understand and access the vast resources available to them.”
The academy is held at five different Centre County locations throughout the week, with classes daily from 8:30 a.m. until noon.
Participants will hear from a variety of speakers from local law enforcement, Centre County courts and other county agencies.
To register, contact State College Community Relations Officer Kelly Aston at 814-278-4738 or by e-mail at kaston@statecollgepa.us.
