The Centre County Coroner’s Office has identified the Bellefonte woman killed in a head-on collision with a tractor-trailer Wednesday on U.S. Route 322 in Harris Township.
Toni L. Freeman, 67, died of blunt force trauma to the head, according to Coroner Scott Sayers. Her death was ruled accidental.
A preliminary investigation indicated Freeman was driving a Toyota Rav 4 eastbound at about 12:30 p.m. Wednesday when she crossed into the westbound lane and struck the tractor-trailer, State College police Lt. Kelly Aston said. The crash happened around the 5600 block of the Mount Nittany Expressway in the area where the road merges from four lanes to two.
Freeman was the only occupant of the SUV. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured.
An investigation is ongoing. Aston said on Wednesday that drugs and alcohol are not believed to be a factor.
Route 322 was closed between the eastbound Old Fort exit and the 322/Boal Avenue interchange near Boalsburg until about 4 p.m.
