Penn State crews are scheduled to set off pyrotechnic launchers shortly after 5 p.m. Tuesday at University Park, State College borough announced.

The launchers are intended to disrupt about 1,500 migratory crows in central campus, according to the written announcement. Two launchers will be stationed near College Avenue; another two will be near Boucke Building and Oswald Tower; and one will be situated between the Moore and Music buildings.

University workers plan to set off the launchers sequentially, hoping to push the birds north and toward where they roosted last year, according to the announcement.

Penn State plans to deploy ‘pyrotechnic bangers and screamers’ to disrupt campus crows as needed during the cold weather this academic year. The university has indicated it will deliver occasional updates to the public.
