Centre County District Attorney Stacy Parks Miller announced Monday she is running for re-election in 2013.
Parks Miller was elected 2009 and became Centre County’s first female district attorney.
“I plan to build on our proven record of successful, smart prosecutions. While I am proud of the progress that has been made, there is much work that is left to do. I promise to continue to strive for excellence in fighting crime and serving victims every single day,” Parks Miller said via press release.
In her first three years as district attorney, Parks Miller’s office handled over 8,000 cases. Personally, Parks Miller successfully prosecuted several cases, including a murder case and a felony weapons case – in which four men went on Centre County’s “most violent robbery spree in history” – as well as a serial burglar, according to the press release.
Parks Miller has also worked to protect victim’s rights – including those for animals – and instituted new protocols in handling child sexual and physical abuse cases to ensure the complete safety of a child involved in a case.
“I am excited about serving Centre County citizens. I look forward to going to the office every day. I will continue to earn the voters trust every single day since that is what the job demands,” Parks Miller said.
“I will continue to make sure I employ highly competent and qualified attorneys and staff who are also dedicated to my mission and who exhibit a strong public service commitment. We will continue to forge strong partnerships with law enforcement, and continue to be a voice for victims of crime.
“We are going to aggressively prosecute the criminals that prey on those that cannot protect themselves to keep our county safe and a place we all want to live,” she said.
Prior to taking office in 2010, Parks Miller was a former prosecutor and had previously held the position of First Assistant District Attorney in Clearfield County.
