At least part of the Pugh Street garage roof may be closed to cars for a while.
Part of the wall running around the roof was damaged, leaving it dangling out over Pugh Street. Fire crews and police responded early Monday afternoon, stabilizing the damaged area by securing it to a light pole with heavy rope. No one was injured.
“This is only a temporary measure,” says Walter Schneider with the Centre Region Code office.
Schneider says the next step is to bring in a private contractor who will remove the damaged section of the wall and replace it with new concrete. He was unable to speculate on how long that process might take, explaining that the exact schedule depends largely on the contractor.
Schneider says the cause of the damage has not been officially determined yet, but speculates that someone probably ran into the wall with their car. He was not sure when the damaged occurred, but said the call came in after noon.
