A virtual tour of the Phase I renovation of the IM Building has been released, and from the looks of it the project is going to be very successful. Located at the intersection of Curtin Road and University Drive, the $26.1 million partial renovation has become a mission to meet student demand for fitness facilities.

The time-lapse creates an accurate image of what is to come for students in the near future. The project began February 4 and is scheduled for completion around May of next year.

So what exactly is being changed? Quite frankly, just about everything. The new two-level fitness center resembles the Rec Building located along Atherton Street across from the golf course, except this center won’t be a twenty-minute hike or annoying bus ride for freshman living in East.

The expansion is approximately 48,000-square-feet, including many new details. The entrance to the lobby will have a reception desk, equipment checkout, multipurpose rooms, and a comfy lounge. Sounds fancy, right?

Following the design of the White Building and Rec Hall, the new and improved IM Building will be an eco-friendly one. Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certified, the building will include features such as natural and Light Emitting Diode lighting, water bottle filling stations, and natural ventilation.

If the new renovations and upgrades to the IM Building aren’t enough to get you motivated to head to the gym and work on your fitness, I don’t know what will. Also, this is only Phase I of the renovation, so be prepared for more cool and intriguing time-lapse videos to come.
