Free Holiday Parking to Return to Downtown State College

For those heading to downtown State College next week for some holiday shopping or a bite to eat, there will be no need to worry about feeding the parking meter or paying before leaving the garage.

Beginning Dec. 17 and continuing through Dec. 25, parking at all borough-operated garages, lots and street meters will be free thanks to a partnership between the borough and the Downtown State College Improvement District. 

White bags with a red and green message will be placed on parking meters to notify drivers. Free parking also will be available at the Beaver Avenue, Fraser Street and Pugh Street garages and the municipal lots on the 200 block of South Allen Street, 100 block of West Beaver Avenue and 100 block of McAllister Street 

Since Thanksgiving, drivers have been able to get special four-hour holiday parking validation from downtown businesses for the Beaver Avenue, Fraser Street and Pugh Street garages. That will continue through Jan. 1 and a list of participating merchants for validated parking can be found here.

The borough also will not enforce ‘No parking 2 a.m. to 6 a.m.’ restrictions from 2 a.m. on Dec. 15 through 2 a.m. on Jan. 8.

Lawn parking will not be permitted and Pennsylvania Vehicle Code violations will be enforced.
