Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania began a $650,000 natural gas pipeline replacement project in State College this week.
The company is replacing 2,500 feet of pipelines on Centre Lane and involves pipelines along Westerly Parkway between South Atherton Street and South Allen Street, and on South Allen Street between Westerly Parkway and South Atherton Street, according to a news release. Work will take place between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Temporary lane closures are possible during working hours.
The work will require a temporary interruption of service for individual customers while their service is transferred to the new pipe, and customers will be contacted prior to shutoff and to schedule restoration of service.
Service lines will be replaced if needed and customers with indoor meters will have their meters relocated outside at no cost.
All employees will have photo identification badges identifying them as Columbia Gas employees or contractors. Customers can ask for ID before allowing anyone into their home or can call 1-888-460-4332 for employee verification.
