Kappa Alpha Theta sorority and Lambda Chi fraternity used watermelon for more than just its nutritional value and sweet taste on Friday.
The two greek groups hosted their annual watermelon bash at the Lambda Chi fraternity house on Garner Street from 4 to 6 p.m. The watermelon bash is a philanthropy event that raises money and donates all the profit to CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates).
CASA is a national philanthropy that was adopted by Kappa Alpha Theta in 1989, said Jules Fuecht (senior-Italian), who is a member of the sorority. CASA volunteers speak on the behalf of abused and neglected children in court.
The members of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority and Lambda Chi fraternity set up a tarp yesterday on the hill outside the house and fashioned it into a slip and slide, using watermelon pieces.
Chunks of watermelon were scattered all over the lawn and left people a sticky mess.
The sorority and fraternity will count the money today to determine just how much money they were able to raise this year, said Fuecht.
