‘Happy Valley’s Got Talent’ to Bring Fun for Grieving Kids, Support ‘Tides’

Attention singers, dancers and fire performers.

Happy Valley wants your talent.

Tides, a State College non-profit that supports families coping with the death of loved ones, is proudly hosting “Happy Valley’s Got Talent.”

“When kids come through the Tides program, they often tell us they have ‘forgotten how to have fun.’ Our hope through this event is that this show will be a fun night for all,” said Leslie B. Finton, executive director of Tides.

Modeled off the national television show “America’s Got Talent,” the State College version will be held Saturday, April 2, at 7 p.m. at the State Theatre. Pure Cane Sugar will open the show. Sue Paterno, Jeff Brown and P.J. Mullen will serve as judges, and Fred Metzger will emcee.

Open auditions take place at Indigo on Saturday, March 19, from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Sunday, March 20, from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. (Participants can show up at either audition.)

 Age divisions will be split as follows:

         •         Youth Division, ages 12-15

         •         Junior Division, ages 16-20

         •         Senior Division, ages 21 and up

During the April 2 finals at the State, Tides will feature a “Wall of Caring” that will allow community members to make a direct impact on the non-profit’s programs. For example, for $25 someone can buy a night of crafts for the children at Tides.
