Herbstreit Names Penn State Student Section Best in College Football

As if selling out the student section every year for the past 40 years didn’t reassure you that Penn State has the best student section, ESPN College GameDay Analyst and former Ohio State quarterback Kirk Herbstreit reaffirmed the Nittany Lions’ spirited dominance via Twitter:

Herbstreit’s number one student section in the country previously received praise from another Buckeye — Urban Meyer, who said Penn State has a top-five atmosphere. Meyer’s Ohio State team will have the privilege of experiencing a Nittany Lion student section again when they return to Beaver Stadium on Oct. 22 for this season’s Whiteout game.

It’s not the first time Herbstreit has singled out Penn State’s student section as the nation’s best. During the 2005 Penn State-Ohio State broadcast from Beaver Stadium, Herbstreit proclaimed “That’s the best student section in the country, they’re crazy.” He reaffirmed that ranking in a Q&A last summer.

‘I just remember walking out of [the 2005 game] saying, ‘That, that, is what a student section is supposed to be in college football. That right there.’ To make a difference in the game … They were the 12th man, and from that point on, I’ve always looked at them and said, ‘That student section sets the bar.”
