It’s Official: Quarterback Tyler Ferguson Signs with Penn State

Quarterback Tyler Ferguson signed his letter of intent and is officially joining the Penn State football team, the university announced Thursday.

Ferguson is expected to enroll in January and would be eligible to participate in winter conditioning and spring drills, when he will compete with sophomore Steven Bench for the starting quarterback position in the wake of Matt McGloin exhausting all his years of eligibility. By enrolling early in January, his scholarship would count toward the Class of 2012.

Ferguson, 6-foot-4, 210 pounds, threw for 2,614 yards and 22 touchdowns in 10 games last season at the College of the Sequoias in Visalia, Calif. He broke his collarbone during the 2011 season at Bakersfield’s Ridgeview High School.

He will have four years to complete three seasons of eligibility.
