It’s time to settle a question that’s been the source of debate for generations of Penn Staters.
What is the best Creamery ice cream flavor?
OK, so that question may never be answered definitively. But the Penn State Berkey Creamery will hold an online, March Madness-style tournament to determine the most popular flavor.
Voting in the Flavor Madness tournament starts on Thursday at the Creamery website, with the appropriately-named Sweet Sixteen. First-round voting continues through Sunday, March 19.
Votes can be cast in four divisions:
‘We Scream’ Division
– Vanilla vs. Cookies and Cream
– Keeney Beany Chocolate vs. Strawberry
‘You Scream’ Division
– Coconut Chip vs. Peanut Butter Swirl
– Bittersweet Mint vs. Alumni Swirl
‘We All Scream’ Division
– Death by Chocolate vs. Butter Pecan
– Chocolate vs. Black Raspberry Frozen Yogurt
‘For Ice Cream’ Division
– Peachy Paterno vs. Raspberry Sherbet
– Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough vs. WPSU Coffee Break
The winner of each match-up advances to the Elite Ate, with voting March 21-26. The Flavorful Four (‘We Scream’ winner vs. ‘You Scream winner and ‘We All Scream’ winner vs. ‘For Ice Cream’) will take place March 27-April 2, with winners announced April 3.
Then it’s down to the Tasty Two for the championship. Voting for the final will be April 4-7 and the champion will be announced on April 10.
“Penn Staters are passionate about anything related to their school, including their favorite Creamery flavor,” said Jim Brown, assistant Creamery manager, in a release. “This is your chance to get behind your top choices, and help establish what could be a beloved new March tradition at the Creamery.”
The winning flavor will be discounted for $2 off half gallons for online orders through the Creamery website (but not in-store).
Voters in the contest will be entered in a drawing for a free shipment of Creamery ice cream, with a new winner chosen at random every week. Contest rules can be found at https://creamery.psu.edu/flavor-madness.
