Sunday was a day of history making for the Penn State Lady Lion basketball team.
Maggie Lucas surpassed 2,000 career points with a 30 point performance in a 77-68 win over Georgetown in the nation’s capitol.
A two point jumper with 16:18 remaining in the game pushed Lucas over the historic mark.
Lucas becomes just the 5th Lady Lion to score 2,000 points. She joins Kahdeejah Herbert (2,025), Tyra Grant (2,044), Susan Robinson (2,253) and Kelly Mazzante (2,919).
The game was not a pushover for Penn State as the Hoyas kept battling back from deficits including a 19 point Lady Lion lead with just over 10 minutes remaining in the game. Assistant coach Maren Walseth said after the game that some adjustments were made at halftime and Penn State came out with a flurry and extended that lead to the 19 point mark only to see Georgetown battle back.
Georgetown cut the lead to 6 with just under 3:00 to play.
There were three Lady Lions joining Lucas in double figures with Dara Taylor and Ariel Edwards scoring 12 and Talia East adding 10. Tori Waldner led the Lady Lions on the boards with 10 rebounds, which tied a career high.
Next up for 6-2 Penn State is a trip to South Dakota State on Wednesday night for a matchup that tips off at 8:00 p.m.
