Wynwood House Personal Care Communities has been running personal care homes in Centre County since 2001, and owner Vincent Romanini plans to open the newest facility in State College in June. The 40-bed home is currently under construction near University Park Airport.
“All the personal care homes in State College are good facilities. What we offer is affordability and a set price that can help people plan,” said Romanini.
The company started when Romanini’s parents opened a facility in Centre Hall in 2001. Romanini and his wife, Brenda, took over ownership when his parents were ready to retire in 2010, and expanding their services has been a focus. The Romaninis opened a similar facility in Boalsburg in 2016.
Wynwood House facilities have filled up quickly. There is a need for such programs in the area, and Romanini thinks this could also happen in the new State College location.
The facilities are just a step down from hospital-type settings. Seniors can enjoy life without having to worry about the upkeep of a home, and on-site staff provides assistance with daily life including dressing, medication administration, transportation to appointments and meal prep.
Romanini knows that the move to a personal care home can be a difficult decision for a family and many times comes as a surprise. He said he tries to keep the monetary aspects as simple as possible, so people know exactly what to expect. According to Romanini, the cost of his facilities is significantly cheaper than some of the other options in town. He keeps cost as low as possible while still providing a top-notch service by limiting the cruise ship-type activities and working to find the best deals.
The facilities have nurses on shifts seven days a week to help clients with any medical concerns they might have and to help connect the patients with doctors or physical therapy, if needed.
With the new Wynwood House opening this summer, the company is looking for staff members and is accepting new clients.
