Man Allegedly Grabbed Woman by Neck, Struck Neighbor

A Pittsburgh man was charged with assault after he allegedly grabbed a woman by the neck and struck another man in the face at a State College apartment building.

Lamont A. Wright, 23, was charged with two counts of misdemeanor simple assault, a misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct and two counts of summary harassment.

According to a criminal complaint, State College Police responded to a report of a domestic dispute shortly after 3 a.m. on Saturday at a University Drive apartment. A man who had a laceration above his eye reportedly told police that another man, later identified as Wright, had been pounding on the door to an apartment across the hall.

Police say the man saw a woman let Wright into the apartment, but several minutes later observed Wright again pounding on the door. When the woman opened the door again, Wright allegedly charged at her and grabbed her by the neck. The neighbor told police he heard pounding and yelling inside the apartment and was concerned for the woman’s safety, so he knocked on the apartment door, according to the complaint.

Wright reportedly opened the door and went into the hallway, where police say he became argumentative and was yelling loud enough that multiple people from other apartments came out into the hall. The woman attempted to calm the situation, and Wright allegedly swung at her, missed and struck the male neighbor.

The woman reportedly told police that Wright grabbed her by the neck, where police say she had visible marks. The neighbor was taken to the hospital and received stitches for his injury, according to the complaint.

Wright was arraigned before District Judge Thomas Jordan and posted $10,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Wednesday.
