State College residents and Penn State students will have to wait another year before they see The Metropolitan open its doors.
According to Vinh Vuong, the spokesperson for The Metropolitan, the 12-story building that was scheduled to open in July of 2016 has now been delayed to July 2017, due primarily to the harsh winter which created problems for construction crews.
“We, like the community, are very excited for this project, but want to ensure it is completed properly,” says Vuong. “By revising the delivery date, it will allow for additional design changes and enhancements too.”
The Metropolitan building, located on the corner of West College Avenue and South Atherton Street, will be one of the first buildings in State College that offers amenities to both Penn State students and the State College residents.
The apartment complex will have one floor of retail space, one floor of office space, seven floors of student housing and three floors of housing for young professionals, families and alumni, with commercial event space on the top floor.
