Patton Township is using a new system for direct, real-time communication with residents.

The township recently implemented Savvy Citizen, a notification system for local governments to send emergency alerts, event updates, information such as trash collection delays and utility outages and more.

Township residents and neighbors can choose to receive notifications with push alerts on their smart phones, or browse the app for a listing of notifications, alerts and events. The system also allows residents to sign up for text messages or emails.

To sign up, visit the App Store or Google Play to download the free Savvy Citizen app, or visit SavvyCitizenApp.com

“We are pleased to provide ‘real time’ and efficient resident communication to the residents and neighbors of Patton Township by using Savvy Citizen,” Township Manager Amy Farkas said in a statement. Savvy Citizen will enable us to keep our residents up-to-date with not only safety alerts, but with helpful information that will assist their everyday lives.”

The township can use the app for notifications about issues such as a road closure, water outage, municipal meeting, community event and news or a rescheduled trash pick-up day, to name a few. It has scheduling system that allows the township to upload content, create recurring events and change or cancel specific occurrences, with notifications sent to citizens.

“The Savvy Citizen team is thrilled to work with Patton Township, led by an enthusiastic team that is committed to engaging with their residents,” Jeralyn Brown, of Savvy Citizen, said.

Patton Township also has turned on the app’s weather alerts feature, which automatically sends National Weather Service watches and warnings to residents. Individuals can customize content and save their preferences on the types of information they would like to receive.

“We encourage residents and neighbors of Patton Township to sign up today to receive the notifications and events,” Farkas said. “The Township is utilizing the system with the goal to keep residents quickly informed on important information.”
