Three weeks after they knocked off a ranked Wisconsin team at the Bryce Jordan Center, the Nittany Lions tried to repeat the feat Sunday night in Madison. They were really never close.
Facing a confident Badger squad playing on the Big Ten’s toughest home court, Penn State trailed almost from the opening tip in a 76-66 loss to No. 10 Wisconsin. Forward Keaton Nankivil had a career night at the Lions’ expense, leading the Badgers (20-6, 10-4 Big Ten) with 22 points on eight of nine shooting. The Lions (14-12, 7-8) were paced by Talor Battle, who scored 20 of his team-high 23 points in the second half, most when the outcome was all but decided.
Penn State actually shot a terrific 53 percent from the floor, just a shade behind Wisconsin’s 54 percent. But the Badgers enjoyed a huge advantage at the line, hitting 18 of 21 free throws; the Lions were just three of five from the line.
The Nittany Lions are back in action Thursday when they travel to Evanston for a 9 p.m. tipoff against Northwestern.
