Penn State basketball released its non conference schedule this week as the Nittany Lions draw closer to the 2014 season and the fourth year under head coach Patrick Chambers. Penn State will return the majority of the 2013 roster but will have to replace graduated senior and All-Big Ten guard Tim Frazier.
DJ Newbill will look to lead a mixed roster of experience and youth as Penn State welcomes three new faces to the mix. Penn State’s non conference schedule will feature a home meeting against Virginia Tech in the Big Ten ACC Challenge with road trips to Marshall, Bucknell and three games in the Charleston Classic early season tournament.
While Penn State’s schedule isn’t as RPI heavy as it had been in pervious years it should provide the Nittany Lions with a handful of chances to take on teams within the state and region as well as possible meetings against Miami, USC, South Carolina and Cornell in the Charleston Classic.
The full non conference slate can be seen below. The conference schedule should be released later this summer. The Nittany Lions will face a handful of Big Ten teams only once during conference play as follows.
Home: Iowa, Michigan, Nebraska, Purdue
Away: Illinois, Indiana, Michigan State, Northwestern
