Penn State Basketball: Tim Frazier Named D-League MVP And Rookie Of The Year

It wasn’t too long ago that Tim Frazier was sitting in a suit and tie watching his teammates play as he nursed a torn achilles.

But those days are officially long behind the former Nittany Lion.

Frazier was named the NBA Developmental League MVP and D-League Rookie of the Year on Tuesday.

All things considered, Frazier’s first season at the professional level couldn’t have gone much better, playing in 41 games for the Maine Red Claws, 40 as a starter, averaging 16.1 points, 7.1 rebounds and 9.5 assists.

Frazier filled up the stat sheet this season with four triple-doubles while also recording 14 double-doubles for Maine.

Eventually, Frazier was called up for his NBA debut by the Philadelphia 76ers where he saw action in all of the games played while he was under two 10-day contracts before eventually being cut. Frazier became the seventh player in recent NBA history to register 11+ assists in an NBA debut giving him a little slice of history to call his own.

After his departure from Philadelphia, Frazier helped guide the Red Claws to the No. 1 seed in the D-League playoffs but was then once again called up to the NBA ranks, this time by the Portland Trailblazers.

Despite seeing limited action early in his time with Portland, Frazier registered a double-double against the Dallas Mavericks and saw five minutes of action in the Blazers’ Game 1 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies.

Portland has expressed interest in keeping Frazier for the immediate future with plans to send him to Summer League and bring him back for training camp prior to the start of the 2015-16 season.

Whatever his career holds in professional basketball, it’s safe to say Frazier couldn’t have started off any better.
