Penn State Board of Trustees Alumni Nominations Open

Nominations opened Monday for the three alumni-elected seats on the Penn State Board of Trustees, kicking off the annual alumni trustee election process. Trustees Anthony Lubrano, Ryan McCombie, and Rob Tribeck are all facing the end of their terms this year.

Alumni should receive a nomination ballot via email as long as they have a valid address on file. Those who haven’t received a ballot can request one here.

Lubrano and McCombie are nearing the end of their second terms on the board, having first been elected in 2012, while Tribeck has served since 2015. Grassroots alumni organization Penn Staters for Responsible Stewardship, which has endorsed those incumbents in the past, says they all three will seek re-election.

Challengers include Rob Bowsher, who was nominated on last year’s ballot, former Penn State football All-American Brandon Short, and “Joe Out” host Laurie Stanell, a member of the Penn State Alumni Association’s Alumni Council who has previously run for a seat on the board. 

Any alumnus who meets qualifications for membership maybe nominated.

Last year’s alumni trustee election saw incumbents Alice Pope and Robert Jubelirer winning re-election and first-time candidate Jay Paterno earning his first term on the board. Though Sue Paterno was also nominated, she chose to decline because of rotator cuff surgery and said she would “revisit the decision next year.”

Nominations are open through 5 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 25. Alumni need 250 written nominations to be added to the ballot, which will be sent by email on Tuesday, April 10. Current students — both graduate and undergraduate — are unable to vote. 

The election will close at 9 a.m. on May 3, with results announced at the May 4 board meeting.
