As scheduled, Penn State on Friday completed its $1.75 million acquisition of the former Phi Delta Theta house at North Burrowes and Pollock roads.

The century-old house, a University Park landmark, was trashed over the weekend, apparently by outgoing tenants. But Penn State stuck with the original price to which the university trustees agreed in March and finished the transaction as anticipated.

University spokeswoman Lisa Powers said the local Phi Delta Theta alumni group, the former owner of the house, ‘repaired and cleaned up as much as it could in the short time prior to closing.’

She said it’s up to the alumni group to pursue security deposits or other damage-related costs from the former tenants.

Penn State has not announced plans for the fraternity property, though one option is to clear the house and create some green space, Powers said.
