James Franklin has added another recruit to Penn State’s 2019 class with a commitment from Lance Dixon, a four-star linebacker out of West Bloomfield, Mich. He dropped his commitment video into the Twitterverse on Sunday afternoon.
Dixon is rated as the seventh-best player in the state of Michigan and the No. 16 outside linebacker in his recruiting class according to 247 Sports. His commitment should help strengthen up Penn State’s front seven for years to come, as he joins five-star linebacker Brandon Smith who committed to Penn State in May.
Wisconsin and Michigan State were also pining for the Michigan native, but Dixon decided to come further east for his college career. He also held offers from Michigan, Ohio State, and Notre Dame, among others. You can check out his Hudl highlights here.

In his commitment video, Dixon noted that he was “looking for a school with a loyal coaching staff” and somewhere where he was “treated like family.” Oh, and it probably doesn’t hurt that Penn State is nicknamed “LBU.”
Apparently, Franklin’s family-centered recruiting pitches are working. Dixon is now the 10th commitment to the 2019 recruiting class in Happy Valley, a group that has grown significantly since the beginning of the summer.
With Dixon in the fold, Penn State’s recruiting class moves up to No. 20 in the nation, according to 247 Sports.
