Penn State football’s 2018 recruiting class took a big hit on Sunday night as Harrisburg product and five-star defensive end Micah Parsons decommitted, re-opening his recruitment.

Parsons committed in February of 2016 and was was the first commit in the Nittany Lions’ 2018 class. He would eventually transfer from Central Dauphin to Harrisburgh High School midway through his high school career.

While Sunday night’s news was technically unexpected, Parson’s recruiting timeline had been anything short of clam. The five-star prospect had taken visits to Ohio State and West Virginia and seemed at least interested in what those programs had to offer according to reports.

Parson’s didn’t follow-up Sunday’s announcement with any indication of where he might be headed next. While it’s entirely possible that Penn State will once again land Parson’s services, decommitted players committing once again to the same school is historically unlikely.
