Penn State added another member to its 2023 recruiting class on Monday afternoon as Scranton Prep running back London Montgomery verbally committed to the Nittany Lions. Montgomery choose Penn State over Boston College and Virginia Tech in his final three schools.

The 5-foot-10, 180 pound prospect is rated a three-star talent by the 247 Network but a four-star prospect by the site’s composite rankings which account for multiple recruiting and evaluation sites across the recruiting ecosystem. Montgomery comes in as the nations’ No. 391st prospect and the seventh-best prospect in the state of Pennsylvania.

After an up and down week on the recruiting trail that included quarterback Marcus Stokes flipping to Florida and four-star defensive end Elliot Washington flipping from Alabama to the Nittany Lions, Montgomery is Penn State’s 17th verbal commitment to a 2023 class that entered Monday ranked No. 6 overall so far in the cycle. Montgomery is the first running back commitment in the class and just the fifth skills-position player in the class on the offensive side of the ball.

With Montgomery in the fold, Penn State will now wait for the announcement of linebacker Tony Rojas, who is set to announce his commitment on Thursday. Rojas is generally expected to also commit to James Franklin and his staff. He was originally slated to announce earlier in the month but moved his commitment date back for personal reasons, according to his Twitter account.
