Penn State Football: Huff Reportedly Set To Join Moorhead

Joe Moorhead will be taking at least one of his former colleagues with him according to The Athletic.

Running backs coach, Charles Huff, will be joining Joe Moorhead’s staff at Mississippi State as a co-offensive coordinator, according to The Athletic reporter Chris Vannini.

Huff has been on James Franklin’s staff for the past four years at Penn State as the running backs coach and special teams coordinator. Additionally Huff linked up with Franklin as a member of Franklin’s 2011 staff at Vanderbilt as the offensive quality control coach. They also worked together at Maryland in 2009, when Huff was the assistant offensive line coach.

The move opens the door for a busy offseason in State College. Franklin is already slated to hire or promote from within to replace Moorhead and now Huff.

Additionally a new NCAA rule which takes effect on Jan.9 will allow all coaches to hire a 10th on-field assistant. However in most cases programs have indicated they would likely promote in-house when the rule comes into effect rather than hire from the outside. Penn State employs a host of consultants that would be on a short list of candidates. Some of those same people a large part of Penn State’s resurgence on special teams.

Either way, in total three faces will be gracing the media guide in new roles come the 2018 season.
