Penn State safety Marcus Allen announced on Twitter on Sunday evening that he will be returning to Happy Valley for one more season.

The hard hitting safety recently submitted his name to the NFL Draft board for review and according to Allen he received positive feedback but has decided to finish what he started with the Nittany Lions first.

During his junior season Allen led the Nittany Lion defense with 110 tackles, and perhaps more importantly, had a hand in two big plays. One, came in blocking a field goal against Ohio State that was returned by Grant Haley for the game-winning score, and the other was a key tackle on 4th-and-1 in the Big Ten Championship game against Wisconsin.

What sorts of big plays await Allen in 2017 remains to be seen, but it’s safe to say Penn State’s defense will have yet another veteran presence to lean on during a highly anticipated season.

Defensive end Garrett Sickels is the only defensive player so far to announce an early departure, joining receiver Chris Godwin. Conversely, tight end Mike Gesicki joins Allen as and linebacker Jason Cabinda as Penn State players to officially announce their intentions to return for a final season.
