Penn State Football: Nittany Lions Face Nebraska in Final Home Game

Gameday Coverage: Penn State vs. Nebraska

Good morning from Beaver Stadium where the Penn State Nittany Lions (6-4, 3-3) are set to face the Nebraska Cornhuskers (7-3, 4-2) Saturday afternoon. Penn State enters the Senior Day game coming off of a dominant 45-21 victory over Purdue last Saturday. Get to the stadium early to catch a pre-game ceremony honoring the senior class.

The Huskers enter the game after a rollercoaster of a season thus far. They were ranked at one point, but have dropped out of the polls after suffering conference losses to Minnesota and Michigan State. Nebraska has one of the best run games in the nation, averaging a 16th-best 240.3 yards per game as Ameer Abdullah leads the effort.

Nebraska head coach Bo  Pelini is in his sixth season as head coach with the team and has a 56-23 record. Bill O’Brien is facing the Cornhuskers for the second time after suffering a 32-23 loss last year.

Last Time They Met: The Nittany Lions are 7-8 all-time against the Cornhuskers after dropping the last three meetings between the teams. Penn State jumped out to a 20-6 halftime lead against Nebraska when the teams played last season, but the Huskers stormed back to take a 27-23 lead before going on to win 32-23. Matt McGloin threw for 240 yards and a score in the game while Glenn Carson led the way on defense with 14 tackles.

Injuries: According to O’Brien, the team is dealing with typical late season bumps and bruises, but there are no new injuries to report this week for the Nittany Lions.

Nebraska quarterback Taylor Martinez is out indefinitely with a foot injury and will not play tomorrow. DL Thaddeus Randle, TE Jake Long, WR Jamal Turner, and LB Jared Afalava are all questionable for today’s game. OL Jeremiah Sirles is probable with a knee injury.
