Penn State football made it 10 commitments since the end of March as Pennsylvania prospect Lonnie White Jr. verbally committed on Thursday evening.

“Thank you to Coach Franklin and the rest of the staff for the opportunity to play in front of the best fans in the nation,” White wrote on Twitter.

White, a rising senior at Malvern Prep, was previously a Clemson baseball commitment but Tweeted not long ago that he had picked up an offer from Penn State. While the 6-foot-2, 210 pound White played quarterback in high school, White will reportedly transition to receiver while in State College.

White verbally committed to play at Clemson in 2018.

He is rated the 11th best prospect in the state and a four-star prospect by the 247 Network’s Composite rankings. Prior to his commitment to Clemson to play baseball, White was recruited by the likes of Boston College, Michigan, Rutgers and Michigan State.

Penn State’s 2021 class is now 12 players deep and rated the 11th best in the nation according to the 247 Network and fourth best in the Big Ten still fairly early in the recruiting cycle. The Nittany Lions have had a high rate of success in recent weeks, picking up nine commits in the months of April and May, the most ever under coach James Franklin.

White is the third listed ‘athlete’ in Penn State’s recruiting class joining Liam Clifford, brother of Penn State quarterback Sean Clifford, and Maryland native Zakee Wheatley.
