Penn State Football: Nittany Lions Gain Two Commitments, Lose Another

Penn State football’s 2020 recruiting class picked up commitments from two defensive prospects, but lost another on Saturday night.

Four-star defensive end/tackle Coziah Izzard and three-star defensive tackle Fatorma Mulbah became the third and fourth players to commit to the Nittany Lions this weekend, joining cornerback Ji’Ayir Brown and receiver Jaden Dottin, who pledged on Friday. Meanwhile, four-star linebacker Derek Wingo, who committed to the Nittany Lions on Christmas Day, became the fourth player to de-commit from Penn State this month when he announced he was flipping to his home-state Florida Gators.

The 6-2, 270-pound Izzard originally hails from Laurel, Md. and now attends DeMatha Catholic after transferring before his junior year. He picked the Nittany Lions over Maryland, Virginia Tech and Alabama, among others.

Izzard made an official visit to Penn State on Friday after taking an unofficial visit to James Franklin’s program in March. Check out his highlight reel here.

 


Mulbah, a 6-3, 270-pounder from Susquehanna Township High School in Harrisburg, is rated the No. 6 defensive tackle prospect in the Commonwealth and No. 58 in the country by 247Sports. He made an unofficial visit to Penn State in April and attended a camp with the Nittany Lions earlier this month when he was offered. He was on campus for another camp Saturday when he committed. 

 


The Nittany Lions were the first Power Five team to offer a scholarship to Mulbah, who also had offers from Bowling Green, Army, Navy, Temple, Connecticut, Buffalo, UMass and Toledo.

Izzard and Mulbah join Cole Brevard, a four-star prospect from Carmel, Ind., as defensive tackle commitments in Penn State’s 2020 recruiting class, which now numbers 12 players overall.

Wingo, a 6-2, 210-pound linebacker from St. Thomas Aquinas in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., decided to stay closer to home after initially picking Penn State over a number of schools including Oklahoma State, Ohio State and Miami.

“At this time, I feel that I need to make the best decision for me and my family and decommit from Penn State University,” Wingo said in a statement released on Twitter. “Some people do not understand how hard it can be to make a college decision at such a young age, realizing that one choice will affect the rest of your life.”

In addition to Wingo’s change of heart, this month offensive lineman 

 


Grant Toutant flipped his commitment to Ohio State, while fellow offensive lineman Aaryn Parks and cornerback Joshuah Moten both re-opened their recruitments after decommitting from the Nittany Lions.
