Penn State Football: No Worries, You Can Still Get In Without Season Tickets

Penn State announced that there will be no public ticket sale for the Nittany Lions’ games against Pitt and Michigan, and it’s safe to say more than a few fans are upset about this fact.

And it’s hard not to blame them. Plenty of people can’t afford to put up the money for a season ticket package but could find a way to buy two or three tickets to one of the two biggest games of the year. Now that they can’t, it means either buying from the secondary market or watching from home.

But that doesn’t mean it’s unfair. In fact, if Penn State is going to get the most bang for its buck out of Beaver Stadium in its current form (which is key to funding future renovations) the athletic department is probably going to have to do more things like this, not fewer. With more than 8,000 new season ticket holders already in the fold this offseason and retention at its usual 90-plus percent mark, there are plenty of people putting up the money to get in for all seven home games. 

It is supply and demand. Penn State hasn’t been this hot of an item in a very long time and people haven’t been willing to spend this kind of money to see the Nittany Lions in years. So maybe it means your average Joe isn’t getting in for the Pitt game quite as easily as before, but it’s a small price to pay for having a program suddenly everyone wants to see.
