Longtime Penn State football assistant coaches Tom Bradley and Ron Vanderlinden have interviewed with Temple about its vacant head coach position, but will not be hired, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

In a story posted on the Post-Gazette’s website on Thursday, the newspaper’s Penn State beat writer, Ron Musselman, reported that Temple will hire Florida assistant coach Steve Addazio as its next head coach.

ESPN, The Philadelphia Daily News and Sporting News have all reported that Temple will hire Addazio.

Penn State will play Temple in Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia on Sept. 17, 2011.

Addazio is the Gators’ assistant head coach, offensive coordinator and offensive line coach. He’s coached at Florida since 2005, but would have been out of a job when Urban Meyer’s successor, former Texas assistant Will Muschamp, takes over as Florida’s head coach.

A previous report, on Orangebloods.com (part of the Rivals.com network), had erroneously indicated that Addazio has been hired as the offensive line coach for the Texas Longhorns.

The Temple position became vacant when Owls coach Al Golden accepted the head coaching job at Miami (Fla.) earlier this month. Golden, a 1991 co-captain of the Nittany Lions, was a Penn State assistant coach in 2000 before leaving for Virginia.

Golden was 27-34 overall at Temple and 8-4 in 2010, including a well-played 22-13 loss to the Nittany Lions.
