Penn State Homecoming Week Begins; Celebrations under Way

As if the crisp, near-frosty temperatures this morning weren’t notice enough, here’s the formal word:

Penn State Homecoming Week has begun.

A tradition since 1920, Homecoming features events just about every day leading up to a noon football game Saturday at Beaver Stadium. The Nittany Lions will take on the Fighting Illini of Illinois.

Meanwhile, here’s a look at what to expect this week:

  • Monday: East Halls Celebration, 4 to 8 p.m., Findlay Commons.

  • Tuesday: Past to Present Celebration featuring student performances, food and prizes, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., HUB-Robeson Center; For the Glory talent show, 7 p.m., Eisenhower Auditorium. Talent-show tickets are free and available to the public from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Eisenhower Auditorium.

  • Wednesday: Best of Penn State Carnival and Field Day, 5 to 8 p.m., Old Main lawn.

  • Friday: Student-Alumni Ice Cream Social, 1 to 4 p.m., Hintz Family Alumni Center; Homecoming Parade, 6 p.m., University Park campus and downtown State College; pep rally, 9 p.m., Rec Hall. All these events are free to the public.

  • Saturday: Alumni Tailgate Competition, 8:30 a.m., Beaver Stadium; Homecoming football game, noon, Beaver Stadium.
