Audrey Warming, daughter of Penn State men’s soccer head coach Robert Warming and Port Matilda resident, died Sunday morning after her car collided head-on with another vehicle on an exit ramp in Pittsburgh, according to several Pittsburgh media reports.

State police said Warming, 21, was driving the wrong way headed toward an exit in Pittsburgh around 2 a.m. when her car struck another trying to get off the highway, driving in the right direction, according to a report by WTAE.

Warming was pronounced dead by blunt-force trauma at a nearby hospital at 3:40 a.m., according to the Allegheny County medical examiner’s office

The other driver, identified by police as a 19-year-old Pittsburgh woman, according to WTAE, was hospitalized with ‘major injuries,’ but is expected to recover.

According to police, at least four people were injured in the accident but it was fatal for only Audrey Warming.

Robert Warming, her father, was hired in May 2010 as the 11th men’s soccer head coach in Penn State’s history. In his first season, he led his team to 14 victories, the most since 2002, a Big Ten Tournament title game appearance, and coached the team to it’s first NCAA postseason win in five years, according to gopsusports.com.

In a statement on Sunday night, acting athletic director Dave Joyner asked the Penn State community to keep the Warming family in its thoughts and respect their privacy as they try to cope with this tragedy.
