Photos: Local Community Gathers to Remember Pittsburgh Synagogue Shooting Victims
Penn State Hillel and Chabad of Penn State hosted a vigil Monday night in front of Old Main to honor the memories of 11 people who were killed in a shooting at Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh.
Leaders of the campus Jewish community, Penn State President Eric Barron and students with direct connections to Tree of Life spoke at the vigil. Hundreds of community members gathered to respond to the darkness of the tragedy with light.
‘There’s comfort in being with other people, and it’s also showing support, whether you’re Jewish or not,’ said State College resident Jan Abelove-Donahue.
‘All of us are shocked, saddened, devastated in a lot of ways,’ said Aaron Kaufman, executive director of Penn State Hillel. ‘It’s the largest killing of Jews in American history.’
Centre County Report’s Gabrielle Moore reports from the vigil.
