In a defensive game that saw both teams hammer the other for 40 minutes at Gampel Pavilion in Storrs, Conn., the Penn State Lady Lions fell for the second time this season to the second-ranked UConn Huskies, 67-52.

Penn State was able to hang with the Huskies in a very hostile environment before a 10-second span that saw UConn come up with two steals on in-bounds plays that resulted in baskets, and then another turnover that culminated in a seven-point run that extended the UConn lead from eight to 15 and putting away Penn State for good.

The Lions were led by Maggie Lucas, who scored 15 points, while Ariel Edwards added 10 points off the bench. The Lady Lions once again had problems with a tough man-to-man defense and turned the ball over 26 times in the game, a rematch of a Sweet 16 game from last year’s NCAA Tournament.

Penn State is now 6-2 on the season, while the Huskies raise their mark to 8-0. Next up for Penn State is a noon date with the Hoyas of Georgetown on Sunday afternoon in a game that features another former Lady Lion head coach in Terri Williams-Flourney, the coach of Georgetown.
