The sixth-ranked Lady Lions will take on the University of Miami Hurricanes at 7:05 p.m. Thursday in the BankUnited Center in Coral Gables, Fla., and coach Coquese Washington is looking for a big game from her big center, Nikki Greene.
Washington said Wednesday in her weekly press conference that she doesn’t know if Greene will have a 20-20 game every night, but Greene has to have a presence on the court to make the team work.
The 6-foot-4 senior had 20 rebounds and 21 points, going 13-for-14 from the foul line, Saturday against California State University Northridge. She is only the third player in Penn State history with multiple 20-rebound games.
Washington praised Greene’s effort to improve her play over her time at Penn State, especially at the free throw line.
“I remember when those days when you’re just hoping it would hit the rim so we could rebound it,” Washington said with a smile, recalling Greene’s first few years at the foul line.
