PHOTOS: Serious Crash Closes U.S. Route 322 near Boalsburg

UPDATED @ 9:34 a.m. Oct. 8: Three vehicles, in fact, were involved in this crash, State College police reported Friday night.

They also confirmed that there was a fatality.

Police did not immediately release the name of the deceased, as an investigation was ongoing and immediate relatives had yet to be notified.

PennDOT reported about 11 p.m. Friday that the roadway had reopened. Other emergency responders at the scene included the State College police, the Alpha Fire Company, Centre LifeLink and the Centre County Coroner’s Office.

U.S. Route 322 from the Oak Hall interchange to Potters Mills was closed Friday evening after a serious wreck, the state Department of Transportation announced.

One person has died as a result of the crash, WJAC’s Bill Wadell reported.

The closure affects both eastbound and westbound traffic. According to a news release, the road is expected to reopen at 10 p.m. Friday.

The wreck happened about 4:30 p.m. on the Mount Nittany Expressway near Boalsburg, witnesses said. Emergency responders said a tractor-trailer and a car were involved. The car reportedly caught fire.

PennDOT said traffic is being detoured around the closure.

‘Motorists should be alert for stopped or slowed traffic along the roadway,’ a PennDOT statement reads. ‘Drivers need to follow posted detour signs.’

PennDOT-provided updates will be posted at 511pa.com, according to the report. Motorists also may dial 511 from any phone to check traffic conditions.
