Police Investigating Robbery at North Atherton Street Bank

Ferguson Township police are on the search for a suspect who allegedly robbed a North Atherton Street bank on Wednesday afternoon.

Police responded at about 3:50 p.m. to a reported robbery at PNC Bank, 1408 N. Atherton St.

The suspect, who police described as a white male between 5-foot-9 and 6-foot-1, presented a note and demanded cash from bank staff. [Editor’s note: Police originally reported the suspect was carrying a handgun and described the incident as an armed robbery but later said in an update at 6:30 p.m. that no weapon was displayed.]

No one was injured during the incident but the suspect took an undisclosed amount of cash.

The suspect fled the area on a black mountain back heading toward downtown State College, police said on Wednesday night.

He was wearing a red baseball cap, green neck gator, gloves, dark zip jacket and khaki pants.

Officers from Patton Township, State College, Penn State and state police at Rockview assisted in searching the area.
