A Penn State student was hurt Tuesday evening in a collision on Bigler Road near East Halls, University Park police said.
Shortly after 7 p.m., the student was walking across the road near Findlay Commons when a vehicle struck her, according to a police report. She was taken by ambulance to Mount Nittany Medical Center, then flown to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, said Tyrone Parham, the deputy police director on campus.
The student’s name was not released, and university police could not provide details of her injuries or her current condition.
Parham understands that the vehicle’s driver is a university employee, he said. It appears that the vehicle is a privately owned pick-up truck, he said.
According to the police report, the driver reported the incident himself.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing, and neither party involved has been cited or charged, Parham said.
Because the university is on its Fall Break, Parham said, not many people were near the crash scene Tuesday evening. Police are trying to locate anyone who was in the area at the time, he said. They are encouraging people who saw or heard anything to call them at (814) 863-1111.
‘To have one of these (crashes happen) when there was no one here was relatively unusual,’ Parham said.
