State College Area School District held a drive-through celebration to salute its graduating seniors on Wednesday night.
While high school seniors have missed out on a number of traditional events because of the coronavirus pandemic, SCASD organized the ‘Senior Send-Off Parade’ as an alternative to two of the district’s own traditions —visiting elementary schools in their caps and gowns in the days before graduation and the ‘teacher tunnel’ at the end of commencement.
On Wednesday night, seniors traveled in vehicles driven by family members while being cheered on by K-12 faculty and staff along a parade route around the high school campus.
Faculty and staff holding signs of encouragement and congratulations were grouped by school and spaced apart in the interest of safety.
