State College Police arrested a Bellefonte man Thursday in connection with a rape that occurred in September.
Philip Giunta, 23, faces charges of felony rape, sexual assault, aggravated indecent assault and misdemeanor indecent assault and simple assault, according to court documents.
Police were called to Mount Nittany Medical Center on Sept. 5, where a woman who had been admitted for treatment told police Giunta raped her earlier that night.
Giunta, who was known to the woman, was at a party on the 400 block of South Allen Street. The woman, who was also at the residence, said she had gone out on to a covered porch to cool off when almost immediately, she was approached by Giunta.
According to court documents, Giunta took the woman by the hand and told her to follow him. She refused his request twice.
Then, he became aggressive, telling the woman in an angry voice to follow him. When she said no a third time, Giunta grabbed her by the elbow, pulling her around the side of the house, police said.
Giunta pushed the woman to the ground and raped her. She tried to call out to a friend for help, but wasn’t heard.
Giunta immediately left after the assault, police said. The woman, rain soaked, bleeding and covered in mulch and debris from being forced to the ground was taken to the hospital for treatment for internal injuries.
Regarding another investigation, police said there are taking all of the necessary steps to follow up on allegations of inappropriate touching of children at Our Children Day Care Center, 411 S. Burrowes St.
The alleged actions were said to have taken place over the past several months and involve an unspecified number of children.
Police would not comment further on the investigation because of its sensitive nature.
